Museums in Tel Aviv for Arts, History, Design & Photography

Tel Aviv is a must to visit place for art lovers traveling in Israel. In addition to the museums listed in this post, the city has dozens of art galleries and lots of events throughout the year. For getting informed about local events, the best source is the website Secret Tel Aviv.

 

Bialik Square

Known as Bauhaus Square, Bialik Square is an avenue with buildings constructed by wealthy people used to grandiosity in Europe at the beginning of the 2Oth century. Around Bialik Square, you can find the Bialik House, the Beit Ha’ir Museum (Town Hall), the Reuven Rubin Museum, and Bauhaus Center Tel Aviv.

Bialik House

Bialik House, where the poet Chaim Nahman Bialik used to live after emigrating from Ukraine to Israel. The exhibited poems are in Hebrew and in Yiddish, and he also wrote stories for children.

Beit Ha’ir Museum

The Beit Ha’ir Museum (Town Hall) is where used to be the Mayor’s Office and nowadays is an art gallery near the Bialik Square. Around this area, you can explore by combining Carmel Market Food Tour & Beit Hair Museum.

Reuven Rubin Museum

Also on Bialik Street, it used to be the house of the artist Reuven Rubin, showcasing his works and of other artists along 4 floors plus a shop, library, and reading room. Born in Romania, Reuven Rubin painted scenes about life in Palestine in the 1920s and early Israel.

Tuesday: 10:00h – 20:00h

Saturdays and holidays: 11:00h – 14:00h

Other days: 10:00h – 15:00h

Sunday: closed

Bauhaus Center Tel Aviv

A gallery with a permanent collection and changing exhibitions, at Dizengoff Street, 77. They also have tours and publications about Bauhaus in Tel Aviv. From Saturdays to Thursdays, opens from 10:00h till 19:30h. On Fridays, open from 10:00h till 14:30h. On holidays, it’s necessary to contact the Bauhaus Center! The White City Center

Under renovation, The White City Center aims to preserve the heritage of Bauhaus in Tel Aviv. Events happen on the last Thursday and Friday of every month until March 2018. It will officially reopen in 2019 at the Liebling House on 29 Idelson Street!

The Museum of the Jewish People

Located at Tel Aviv University, also named Beit Hatfutsot, this museum displays the history, the culture, the identity, and the heritage of the Jewish people worldwide. A new museum will open in 2018!

Nachum Gutman Museum of Art

At Neve Tzedek, at a house built by the Schulman family in 1887, where writers who began the new Hebrew culture used to meet. A museum with art pieces donated by Nachum Gutman’s family, including paintings, illustrations, and sculptures. Here you can buy the ticket if you to explore Tel Aviv’s culture and history through the works of Nahum Gutman.

Eretz Israel Museum

Eretz Israel located at Ramat Aviv district, with displays on history, archeology, ethnography, arts, and Jewish history.

Thursday: 10:00h-20:00h

Friday: 10:00h – 14:00h

Saturday: 10:00h – 14:00h

Other days: 10:00h till 16:00h

Tel Aviv Museum of Art

Envisioned by Tel Aviv’s former Mayor Meir Dizengoff in 1932 from his private home on Rothschild Boulevard until change locations before the current buildings on Shaul Hamelech Boulevard (main building) and the Herta and Paul Amir Building. The extended spaces include Lola Beer Ebner Sculpture Garden and Nata’s Garden.

Displays Israeli art, modern and contemporary art, prints and drawings, photography, architecture and design, arts from XVI to XIX centuries. Tours, concerts, workshops, and classes take place at Tel Aviv Museum of Art.

Design Museum Holon

Designed by the Israeli architect Ron Arad, opened in 2010 hosting exhibitions and events dedicated to displaying the role of design play in our lives and the perceptions about design. The Design Museum Holon also hosts lectures, events, and tours. Details are found on the museum’s website.

Old Jaffa Museum of Antiquities

Located at an old governmental Ottoman house, on top of a crusaders fortress, rebuilt on the XVII century. The museum contains archeological findings, historical testimonies, and contemporary art representing more than 9.000 years.

Open:

Thursday: 10:00h – 16:00h

Friday: 10:00h – 14:00h

Saturday: 10:00h – 18:00h

Sunday to Wednesday: only by appointment for groups of 20 or more visitors

*On holidays, it’s open on weekdays from 10:00h to 18:00h. On holiday eves and Memorial Day (usually in April or May, according to the Hebrew calendar), it’s closed.
