Tel Aviv resumes what is Israel: vibrant, open-minded, cosmopolitan, and global plus the beaches along the Mediterranean Sea.
A memory is eternally present in my mind: I was on the beach, shirtless around orthodox Jews, Muslims, bikinis of several sizes, gay couples — and everyone respecting each other. A very common scene in Tel Aviv. Where else in the Middle East can you imagine such a scene?
The city is also recognized worldwide for its vibrant nightlife and for being a gay-friendly destination. Tel Aviv Pride usually happens in June, it is one of the biggest events of this segment in the world. On the right side, is a funny picture from the 2017 edition taken by Dubi Feiner that can portray how all opinions are welcome, even the dissatisfied ones.
What else do we consider when visiting Tel Aviv? Below, there is a list. To help you plan your itinerary, I wrote suggestions of what to visit in Tel Aviv in 1 day, in 2 days, and in 3 days.
Get Informed on Secret Tel Aviv
In order to get to know about everything going on in Tel Aviv, check the website Secret Tel Aviv. It started as a Facebook group for internationals and has expanded to a website that is a complete city guide in English. You can find all the information about events, tourism, what to do, where to go, migration, etc. Their newsletters are also useful to keep updated about what’s happening in Tel Aviv.
Beaches in Tel Aviv
For beach lovers, just one more reason to fall in love with Tel Aviv. Plus warm waters and sunny Mediterranean weather. The beaches I spent time on are Jaffa Beach, Metzitzim Beach, Religious Beach, Gordon Beach, Frishman Beach, Bograshov Beach, and Geula Beach. You can see on this post written by Secret Tel Aviv with all the beaches in Tel Aviv and in other places in Israel. See their map below, too.
Visit Fresh Food Markets
Some of the things I love most in Israel are the fresh fruits and the delicious biscuits at the markets. Grapes, cherries, watermelon, dates, plum, pomegranates, apricots. If you love fruits and bakeries, don’t waste the chance to enjoy them. Carmel Market is a must-visit place!
Explore the Old Jaffa
Also known as Yafo, Jaffa is one of the oldest ports in world history, used as a harbor since the Bronze Age (3.200–600 B.C.) and associated with the biblical story of Jonah. Under the Arab (from 636 to XVI century) and Ottoman (from XVI to XX century), this neighborhood distinguishes from the rest of Tel Aviv for the Ottoman architecture with alleys and houses made of stone. The old buildings in contrast with the Mediterranean Sea give some of the most impressive views of Tel Aviv. Jaffa also hosts a flea market, stores, and restaurants.
Walk Around Neve Tzedek
It was the first Jewish neighborhood built outside the old port of Jaffa. Neve Tzedek is nowadays a fashionable, artistic, and expensive neighborhood. Located next to the beach, Rothschild Boulevard, Carmel Food Market, and Nachalat Binyamin Market. Along with its main streets, concentrates on trendy cafes, restaurants, fashion, and design studios.
Go to Startup & Tech Events
Israel is a world startup hub, only behind Silicon Valley, with 5,500 startups and 350 R&D centers looking for a solution to the most pressing challenges around the world. When it comes to tech and startups, Tel Aviv is the city to go to, and very often there are events happening in the city.
Tel Aviv is in no way behind cities like Barcelona and Berlin. If you’re looking for innovation, excitement, beaches, and history; is a must-visit destination during your trip to Israel.
