Kyiv in 1 day

On this post, we go with travel tips of what you can do in Kyiv during one day, concentrating around Independence Square, locally known as Maidan. For exploring the Ukrainian capital without any rush, I recommend at least four or five days, expanding from a list of places to go described on Kyiv in 2 Days.

Around Maidan Nezalezhnosti

Locally known as Maidan, or Independence Square, Maidan Nezalezhnosti is a landmark of Kyiv. It’s a meeting point where locals hang out with friends, spend the time and even political demonstrations take place there. Located next to the metro stations Kreschatyk/Хрещатик (red line) and Maidan Nezalezhnosti/Майдан Незалежності (blue line). And near both metro stations, you find Arsenalna/ Арсенальна station –  the deepest metro station in the world, 105 meters underground.

Roshen Store

Next to Maidan at Kreshatyk Street 29/1, there is a Roshen Store, a Ukrainian producer of chocolate and candies, and a mandatory places for candy lovers. There are other Roshen stores around Kyiv, but for a day just to go Kreshatyk Street (getting off Kreschatyk metro station).

Eat Ukrainian food

Also next to Maidan, there’s a branch of Puzata Khata/Пузата Хата (Kreschatyk St. 15/4) and of Dva Gucya/Два Гуся (Kreshatyk St.). Both places serve Ukrainian food for inexpensive prices on full time. For more details on Ukrainian food, go to Dishes to try in Ukraine.

Saint Sophia Cathedral

Near the Maidan, you find the Saint Sophia Cathedral, at Volodimyrska Street. Draws attention from its contrasting colors, its dependencies include a monastic complex built in the 11th century.

A baroque Russian church built between 1747 and 1754, another landmark of Kyiv, and the way to reach it out is one of the most interesting walks in the city. Located 1 km from Maidan, at Andriivskyi Street.

River Port

On the sunset, a nice place to spend the time in Kyiv is around the Dnipro River, at the River Port. Next to Poshtova Plosha/Поштова Плоша metro station. In the summer, it’s a place where locals go to walk, get together, chill out. On the summer, locals go swimming on Dnipro River next to metro station Gidropark/Гідропарк.
